Stampestuen picks up forgotten songs about strong personalities with captivating life stories. On their debut album «Brev fra Amerika» (Letters from America) they interpreted songs by some of the many Norwegians that migrated to America. Their latest album is dedicated to songs about thieves, murderers, beggars and drifters – people who for different reasons ended up as outsiders and enemies of the19th century Norwegian society.

The members of Stampestuen are established musicians in the Norwegian jazz- and traditional music scene, with a common interest in old songs and stories. Stampestuen emphasizes on the lyrics, aiming to bring the historical events closer to us. In their music Stampestuen draws inspiration from genres such as jazz, country music and irish folk music. Although much of the music is built around the guitar, the use of instruments such as reed organ, hardanger fiddle, accordion, appalachian dulcimer, banjo and mandolin helps create a unique, rough and unpolished sound, substantiating the different moods and textures of the songs.

Stampestuen is:

Beate Børli Løkken – vocal, dulcimer
Marius Graff – guitar, mandolin, banjo, vocal
Jon Hjellum Brodal – fiddle, hardanger fiddle
Anders Lillebo – guitar, harmonica, accordion, reed organ, vocal
